Evan

Evan is 12 years old and lives in Crystal Falls. He enjoys collecting teddy bears and marbles. He'd rather play video and board games or do chemistry then play sports. Evan has a male dog named Toby. His family includes his parents, Nancy and Dale, and a brother he has never met named Ian. At about 4 foot 10 inches, Evan is a small kid. He has dark brown hair to match his grown eyes. Orchestra is the music Evan likes the most. He plays clarinet. A trip to the land "down under" has always intrigued Evan. The fascination of marsupials and snakes is what draws Evan's interest to Australia. Evan has many different goals for the future. He hopes to be a chemist, a stand-up comedian, or a pilot. Or maybe even all three...

Interesting Opossums
(Didelphis)

Physical Description- The head and body of an Opossum is 3-20 inches and the tail is 4-20 inches. It's scientific name is Didelphis. It has grayish black hair and has a long nose. They also have opposable thumbs on both hands.

Diet- Its main diet is grasses, leaves, fruits, insects, reptiles, and other small animals.

Habitat- Its habitat is in wooded areas. Some Opossums prefer to live in dens rather than a tree.

Causes of Death- Opossums are at greatest risk from humans, Domesticated pets, and cars. Most orphaned Opossums are the fault of cars because when a mother carrying babies in her pouch gets run over by a car, the babies survive.

Behavior- If you see an Opossum, you should leave them to their business. Even though they might not have a disease, they still can bite. Your best chance of seeing one is if you look for them at night because they scavenge for food at night. In the face of danger, the Virginia Opossum plays dead in front of the predator. This coma-like state can last up to four hours, whereas the opossum drools, doesn't blink, and takes slow, shallow breathing. Usually when the Opossum does this, the predator will call off the attack. If an Opossum sees you, he'll probably play dead in front of you. Opossums also hang by their tails and use it for grasping things. Opossums are highly resistant to diseases, including rabies. A baby Opossum that survives will live one to two years of age.
