Windows 2000 Dial-up Setup NOT SUPPORTED

These instructions will help customers with Windows 2000 only. If you have any other version of Windows installed, please look at the other directions available on our Technical Support web site. 

This is for reference only. Windows 2000 is not supported by UP.net. UP.net recommends Windows XP or later operating system.

Requirements:
Windows 2000 Installed and working properly.
28.8 modem or higher installed and working properly.

Getting Started:


Click the Start button, select Settings and Network and Dial-Up Connections.


 


Double click the Make New Connection.


 


The Welcome to the Network Connection Wizard will appear. Click the Next button.



The Network Connection Type window will appear. Select Dial-up to Internet from the available connection types and click the Next button.


 


The Welcome to the Internet Connection Wizard will appear. Select I want to set up my Internet connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network (LAN). Click the Next button.


 


The Setting up your Internet connection window will appear next. Select I connect through a phone line and a modem and click the Next button.


 


The Internet account connection information window will appear. In the telephone number box type in the local up.net access number. This number can be found on your Customer Profile sheet. Click the Next button.


 

Special Note: up.net will not be held responsible for long distance charges if you dial a long distance phone number to connect to the Internet. Please read the up.net Terms and Conditions to find more about avoiding long distance charges. If you dial long distance, your telephone company or your long distance carrier will bill you. If you have any questions, or you think this may be a long distance phone number, stop what you are doing and call us at 1 (800) 290-2209.


The Internet account login information window will appear. In the User name box enter in your Login ID from your up.net Customer Profile Sheet in the login name, or user ID box. Make sure you type it in as it appears. (NOTE: The prefix of your Login ID is usually three letters followed by 5 digits. The prefix letters should always be lower case. Remembers that the last 5 digits are numbers and not the letter O with some numbers at the end.) Click the Next button.


 


The Configuring your computer window will appear next. In the Connection name box type in up.net and click the Next button.


 


The Set Up Your Internet Mail Account window will appear next. Select Yes from the options and click the Next button.


The Setting up Internet Mail window will appear next. Select Create a New Internet mail account from the options provided and click the Next button.


 


The Your Name window will appear next. In the Display name box type in your name like you want it to appear in e-mail messages that you send out. Most e-mail users enter their first name and last name. Once completed click the Next button.


The Internet E-mail Address window will appear next. In the E-mail address box type in your up.net e-mail name followed by @up.net (example: janedoe@up.net). You can find your E-mail name on your up.net Customer Profile sheet. Click the Next button.


 


The E-mail Server Names window will appear next. Your incoming mail server should be left at POP3.DO NOT change that option or your e-mail will not work properly. In the Incoming mail box enter in mail.up.net and in the Outgoing mail Server box enter mail.up.net. Click the Next button.


 


The Internet Mail Logon window will appear next. The Account name should already be filled in for you. Enter your up.net e-mail name Password for this account in the Password box. Most of the time, but not always, this is the same as your login id password. Note that your Password is case sensitive and needs to be typed as it appears on your Customer Profile sheet. For security reasons, when you type in your Password, it will appear as "*" so be careful when you type it in as you will not be able to see what you are typing. Make sure there is a check mark in the Remember password box and click the Next Button.


The Completing the Internet Connection Wizard will appear. Click the Finish button.


The Dial-Up Connection window will appear. Make sure that the Save Password box and the Connect automatically boxes are checked. Click the Connect button. Your computer should dial out and connect to the Internet. If your computer comes up with any errors please contact the up.net Helpline at 1-800-290-2209.


To disconnect from the Internet find the Dial-Up Networking icon on your taskbar. This is usually two computer monitors that are located right next to the clock on your task bar (figure 12). Double click on the Dial-Up Networking icon to bring up the connection window. To disconnect simply click the Disconnect button.


 


To use the World Wide Web

To use the World Wide Web or your web browser, find the Internet Explorer icon. You can now find this icon by clicking on your Start button. Double click on it to bring up your web browser. In the address box type in the web site that you would like to appear and press the Enter key on your keyboard (an example of a web site address is: http://www.up.net). Another way to call up a web site you would like to view is to click File and Open from the pull down menu in Internet Explorer. In the Open box type in the web site you would like to view (example: www.BaragaTelephone.com )


Make UP.net your home page

Start Internet Explorer per the instructions above. Click Tools and Internet Options from the pull down menu located at the top of the Internet Explorer window. Three options should be listed on the Internet Options window. Find the Home Page option (usually listed at the top of the Internet Options window). In the Address box type in http://www.up.net and click the Ok button.


How to Disconnect from the Internet

Double click on the up.net icon on your desktop. You can also double click on the computer monitors on your Taskbar by your clock. The up.net Status window should appear. Click the Disconnect button to disconnect from the Internet. We ask up.net customers to please disconnect from the Internet when you are not using it so modems can be made available to other up.net customers.


We recommend that all up.net customers read our Terms of Service. By using UP.net's services you are bound to those Terms of Service.
