up.net website

up.net’s website employs a number of backend scripts to populate content on our website – content such as stock information, stories, ads, events, weather, etc. From approximately 2:00PM Saturday through noon Sunday one of these backend scripts was redirecting some content to a malicious web site that was requesting web site visitors to download and play a windows media file.

Sunday morning, as soon as we were alerted to the redirect, up.net disabled the offending script.

If you visited the up.net website this past weekend up.net strongly encourages you to use one or more of the following online security tools to scan your computer:

Hitman Pro – You may need to boot your computer into safe mode with networking. As the computer is booting tap the “F8 key” continuously until you get the startup menu. Use your arrow keys to move to “Safe Mode with Networking” and press your Enter key. Once you’re done in Safe mode if you want to get back into Normal Windows simply restart the computer like you normally would and let it boot normally.
